Membership sites are all the rage right now. More and more Internet Marketers are starting up membership sites because they are relatively easy to start-up and they can be very profitable. If you want to start your own membership site then the first decision you’ll have to make is what type of site you want to have. The types of membership sites are traditional, fixed term, and newsletter.
A traditional membership site is the kind of site that has been around the longest and it continues to be the most popular. With this type of site a person pays to be a member and then receive content and/or value for being a member on a regular basis. The member is required to pay their membership fee every so often and they can remain a paying member for as long as they want.
A fixed term membership site is the kind of membership site that is only for a fixed amount of time. So a person becomes a member and then is only a member for a certain amount of time. For example, sometimes membership sites offer a year long course that teaches members how to do something. So a person pays to be a member for a year, receives content and value for that year, and then they stop paying and stop being a member after the year is up.
A newsletter membership site can be fixed or traditional. What sets this kind of membership site apart is that all the content is delivered through email. So there is no official membership site where people go to sign-in or anything. People just sign-up and pay their money and then their newsletter (the content and value) is delivered into the email box. Obviously this is the easiest membership site to set-up and operate, but it’s also the least professional kind.
The kinds of membership sites are traditional, fixed term, and newsletter. All of these kinds of membership sites have their pros and cons. The key is for you to create the kind that fits you and your potential members the best.
