Mystery Of The Long Tail – Affiliates Guide To Keywords

At this point you are expected to have chosen your niche that you plan on marketing in AND have a product ready to promote. Hopefully a product that is at least halfway decent. So what is next, well keyword research or more market research. You are trying to find out what your customers would type into the search engine to want to buy your product that you are promoting.

Many internet marketing gurus will talk about using long tail keywords. These are keywords that have more then 3 words. The reason they talk about long tail keywords is simple. There is much less competition and the term is more focused. It is much easier to sell a book on building huge biceps to someone who types in “get huge bicep muscles” than it is to sell to someone who types in “build muscle.” See the difference?

So why not just focus on that? Well the main problem with long tail keywords is the fact that they are long tail could mean that a lot less people are searching for them. So even though you optimize your site, article, and PPC ad for a long tail keyword you may only get 5 searches a month and find you have wasted a lot of time.

Now you are stuck between a rock and a hard place, right? Wrong, all that this means is that you need more long tail keywords, not a huge number but at least a few dozen. The benefit is that even though you may not get as many searches per month they are more valuable. This is because they are more specific and therefore more inclined to purchase or sign up with what you are offering.

Now you should be all set, you have your niche and the product you want to promote. You also hopefully went through and properly did market research and got a bunch of long tail keywords that people are using to specifically find what you want to promote. Remember proper research and hard work will always work faster, longer, and yield better results than just winging it.
