Some claim that they are one of the best workers in their industry simply because of the hours they put in for work. I happen to somewhat disagree with this. To an extent, you do have to dedicate time for work. In the end, however, it is the quality of your work that people look at rather that the hours of service you gave.
Getting more done with less time is somewhat of an art. The task requires much heart, but you must keep in mind that working smart comes before everything else. Burning the midnight oil at some point can be detrimental to your health. If you lack sleep and are fatigued with all the demands placed on you, your work may suffer. How do you expect to focus when you’re too tired to do anything else?
Yes, working hard reaps a lot of rewards, but experience tells me that the best way to achieve success is to work hard at working smart. How do you do this? First, you have to be more flexible. Changes come in everyday, and sometimes, in the middle of the project, you may find that you will have to change a lot of the things. Instead of whining and complaining, know that this comes with the territory. Grown-ups deal with it every day, and being a grown-up yourself, you have to be gracious at accepting everything.
Another problem would be is that people do tend to procrastinate. I am guilty of it myself, but I’ve also had to learn my lesson the hard way. The more I put off, the higher my pile of responsibilities gets. If you do this, you definitely will end up disappointing more people than pleasing them. That is why it is also important to plan ahead. Elaborate in the steps to take and take it easy. Haste makes waste! The more you panic, the messier your output becomes.

How to Work Smarter, Not Harder – Ever since computers have become such a large part of our lives, it seems that workloads have dramatically increased. Now, instead of things getting easier, we’ve gotten busier and more hectic than ever before.
This may cause you to feel overburdened with your heavier workloads, especially when it comes to tasks you have to do repeatedly. Finding better ways to accomplish your to-do list can save you time, money, and a whole lot of frustration.
How do you “work smarter, not harder?” Look at what you do on a daily basis and develop ways to get the same amount done with less effort and struggle.
Here are some ways you can work smarter, not harder:
1. Simplify repeated tasks. Forms and templates can save time on a lot of tasks. For example, if you have to send out a lot of the same email, create a template email so you can just fill in the specific parts for each person individually.
2. Delegate. Delegate some of your responsibilities to other people. If you have too much housework, give the kids some chores and set up a schedule. Four people doing four things will get them done faster than one person doing all four things alone.
3. Automate. If you’re in a position that requires the same thing done every day, at the same time, then try to find a way to get the process automated so it happens without you there. An example would be to back up your computer every night, automatically.
4. Eliminate the useless. There are unproductive things you do on a daily basis. In fact, you probably already know exactly what these distractions are! Once you identify your time-wasters, remove them from your routine and focus on those tasks that are truly productive.
5. Focus. Stay focused on your responsibilities, not the responsibilities of others. If everyone focuses on their primary responsibilities first, the large portion of the job gets finished and then minor details can be taken care of later.
6. Learn to say “no.” Many people take on too much work because they’ve never learned to tell others “no.” Before taking on extra duties for someone else, make sure you schedule time for your own needs first.
7. Know your limits. Avoid taking on more than you can handle in order to please someone above you. If you do this on a regular basis, you’ll ultimately be working twice as hard because you’re not performing at your very best.

To start with, you have to learn how to remove yourself from all the distractions. A quiet corner and a locked door make a world of difference. Secondly, you must learn to will yourself not to give in to temptations. When you hear the television blaring, don’t see what show is playing at that moment. Remember, work sustains you, not the shows you watch.
You have to learn to push yourself to the limit. If concentrating is just too difficult at the moment, then reward yourself with a few minutes breather. Even top-ranking officials know when to take a break, and so should you. In the end, you have to think about the benefits you’ll reap once you will yourself to move further. No one rewards the lazy, and pitfalls come to those who procrastinate.
Motivating yourself is what gets you to move forward and think of ways to improve the quality of your work. It is when you get to enjoy the fruits of your labor will you realize that good things come to those who try.
